About Ryan Labs
ACData Solutions established the Barry Ryan Center for the Advancement of Surge Protection Technologies (AKA Ryan Labs™) in 2006 to advance the state-of-the-art in protection technologies for the benefit of our current and future customers.
Initial capabilities of Ryan Labs include a system of surge capacitors with an energy storage capability of 3.3 million Joules, and a total charge delivery capability of 300 Coulombs. "Based on worldwide collection of lightning data, only one out of a hundred lightning flashes reaches 100 Coulombs of charge ", said Dan Sullivan, Vice President of Engineering. Mr. Sullivan further stated that engineers at Ryan Labs have constructed and are routinely using surge generators delivering the largest direct and induced lightning surges defined by both the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
Initial studies conducted at Ryan Labs include cross comparisons of MOVs, fuse wires, and circuit breakers to different lightning threats defined by IEEE and IEC specifications. "Preliminary conclusions drawn from this initial research provides a fundamentally new understanding of the coordination of fuses and circuit breakers with MOV based surge protectors ", stated Richard Chadwick, ACData Sr. Applications Engineer and Chairman of Protection Engineers Group (PEG).
The capabilities of Ryan Labs allow ACData to simulate the lightning and surge environment for any industry in any part of the world, resulting in enormous future benefit for all our customers.
In 2008, ACData is on a path to become one of the first electrical surge protection manufacturers to create a UL certified Data Access Program (DAP) facility. The end result will be our newest, state-of-the-art lightning and power surge simulation testing facility, Ryan Labs, available on-site exclusively to our ACData customers.
Our DAP certification is in process now with UL 1449 officials and construction has begun on the testing facility in Post Falls, Idaho. By making a substantial capital investment in our new lab, ACData expects to test and certify products to the newest UL 1449 Edition 3.0 standard as early as October, 2008. This investment will prove powerful to ACData's leadership position in meeting and exceeding rigorous and ever-changing industry testing standards.
The new Ryan Labs testing facility will allow ACData to leverage our industry competitive advantage of creating rigorously designed and manufactured products with short lead times. By locating this testing facility near our factory, our customers will benefit as our products in development will move to market having met industry standards much quicker than our competition, with even greater reduced lead times.
